Curious to learn what happens during our first meeting?
What I want for you is optimal health and that means getting to the root of the cause.
After we detail your history, we get started with your very first acupuncture session. Almost all my first time patients are delightfully surprised at how relaxing it is.
Are you getting western medical treatments?
Things I most commonly treat in clinic
Calgary is a busy city, full of active, hard working people. High achievers love to call it home. But the downside to that “can do” attitude we Calgarians have, is that we tend to work too much.
Many of my new patients come to me feeling anxious, stressed and overwhelmed. Over the years, they’ve been grinding themselves down bit by bit, eating poorly and not taking the time they need to reset and restore their bodies.
If it does, you might be experiencing one or more of these issues:
- Adrenal fatigue
- Digestive issues
- Low sex drive
- Early menopause
- Perimenopausal issues
- Emotional issues
- Weight gain or weight loss
The great thing about Traditional Chinese Medicine is that it works on all of these things. Every treatment you have with me will calm your body and your mind, while shifting each of your systems back into their natural rhythm, so you can start feeling like yourself again.
Because we look at your health from multiple angles, your overall healing program may require some lifestyle shifts, but speaking from experience, it will be well worth it!
Digestion is a very interesting topic. The digestive tract is extensive and is composed of many organ groups. With this there are many issues of dis-ease which can occur with each specific organ group.
Depending on the affected organ you can experience anything from acid reflux, stomach pain, bloating gas, low appetite, constipation, diarrhea, etc.
In TCM the digestive tract is intimately connected with the Meridian System. Meridians interconnect each organ and creates harmony or imbalance depending on the balance of the Meridian flow.
With my training in TCM I take a step back and see digestive issues through the lense of TCM, and I am able to treat it in a very unique way with acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.
Pain has a huge impact on the quality of your life. Even small amounts of daily discomfort can affect the way you think, how you feel and what you can do. It’s frustrating.
Even if you haven’t had success with other types of treatment, acupuncture can help because it works on two levels – it reduces the pain you’re feeling and, more importantly, by working with the body and listening to what it’s telling us, it will help to get to the root cause of the issue. That means getting rid of the source of the pain, rather than just managing the symptoms.
If you’re ready to get rid of pain and love your life again, let’s talk.
Acupuncture and how we will work together
In my mind’s eye, I see these meridian lines like river pathways. When a river pathway is open and clear of debris the water flows feeding the land, which feeds the people, but if the river pathway is blocked then the water can’t flow through and the people suffer.
If we take this idea and substitute Qi (our body’s energy source) for water, it makes sense then that if Qi doesn’t flow through all of our channels smoothly, our bodies won’t be nourished and illness may ensue.
The goal of each treatment is to treat your body’s specific imbalance.
The goal of an acupuncture treatment is to help identify and release these energy blocks and allow the flow of Qi to regulate. By doing this, our bodies will naturally come back into balance.
In an acupuncture treatment, we will be using very fine, single use, pre-sterilized needles. The needles will be expertly inserted into specific acupuncture points along the meridians.
To determine your body’s specific imbalance we detail your history and go through it together, so I can fully understand what’s been happening and what your body is trying to tell us. After we get all this necessary information, we will move into your first treatment.
Your comfort is very important to me and I will do my best to make you feel safe and relaxed during every treatment, even if you’re afraid of needles.
I actually have many patients who have a fear of needles. I completely understand and respect this. Rest assured that I will do everything in my power to make your treatment pain free and relaxing. In fact, many of my patients who are afraid of needles get excited about coming to their appointments because it is such a relaxing experience.
How Should I Feel After My Acupuncture Treatment?
For example, most people describe a “relaxed feeling” after acupuncture. This relaxed feeling may last the rest of the day and lead to a refreshing sleep that night. Others have described a “warm flowing feeling” through their bodies; or certain parts of their bodies that feels comfortable and peaceful. Some feel energetic and rush home or to work and are able to do all their chores or business without fatigue. Many patients call this their “Acupuncture High”. Others may feel sleepy or drossy and may need to take a nap.
A minority of people may notice that their symptoms may flare up post treatment. When this happens patients often report that this flare up is temporary. Fortunately, those experiencing such treatment reactions, later enjoy the feeling of wellbeing that usually accompanies treatments after a short period of time.
There are some people who feel no different after treatment. This does not mean they are not benefiting from the treatment. It just means that they are not feeling any external reaction to it.
Some people are in such good general health that they may not feel a difference. While others may feel no difference for the opposite reason that their systems are not sensitive anymore because of being unhealthy for too long.
Some people are very sensitive to their bodies and may actually feel the awakening of the proper flow of life energy throughout the body.
I had been seeing Dr. Tanya for about a year due to chronic health issues. During that time I injured my left foot and came into her office with a boot cast. Dr. Tanya wanted to help my foot feel better…
