Doctor of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine in Calgary

Experienced care. A different perspective on your health.

Whether you're dealing with persistent pain, pelvic floor concerns, hormonal changes, stress, or simply looking after your overall well-being, you're welcome here.

I'm Dr. Tanya Kelloway, a Doctor of Acupuncture practising in Calgary since 2010.

I bring together the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine with a contemporary understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the nervous system to provide thoughtful, individualized care.

I work with people of all genders and ages, with particular interests in pelvic floor health and perimenopause.

My goal is to help you better understand your body, explore the connections between your symptoms, and find an approach to care that makes sense for you.

A Different Way of Understanding Your Body

Your body doesn't function as a collection of separate parts.

Pain, sleep, digestion, stress, movement, and hormonal changes can all influence one another.

Sometimes the reason you're seeking treatment is straightforward. You have a sore shoulder, a headache, or an injury that needs attention.

Other times, your symptoms are more complicated. Perhaps you've seen several healthcare providers, tried different treatments, or been told everything looks normal, even though something still doesn't feel right.

Both experiences deserve thoughtful care.

Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a way of looking at the body that considers patterns, relationships, and the connections between different systems.

I combine this perspective with my clinical experience and contemporary healthcare knowledge to help guide your treatment.

You don't need to have everything figured out before making an appointment.

We can start with where you are.

How I Can Help

General Acupuncture & Pain Management

Acupuncture isn't only for complex conditions or specialized concerns.

Many people seek treatment for everyday health issues, including:

  • Neck, back, and shoulder pain

  • Muscle tension and musculoskeletal injuries

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Stress and nervous system regulation

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Digestive concerns

  • General health and well-being

Whether you're managing a new concern, living with something longstanding, or looking for ongoing supportive care, treatment is tailored to your individual needs.

Pelvic Health & Pelvic Floor Acupuncture

Yes, men have pelvic floors too!

And pelvic floor concerns can affect people of every gender.

The pelvis is a complex area where muscles, nerves, organs, and multiple body systems work together.

When something isn't functioning comfortably, symptoms can affect far more than the pelvis itself.

I have a special interest in pelvic floor acupuncture and have pursued additional training to deepen my understanding of pelvic anatomy, neurology, muscular function, and chronic pelvic pain.

People seek pelvic health care for concerns such as:

  • Persistent pelvic or perineal pain

  • Pelvic floor muscle tension

  • Chronic pelvic pain syndrome

  • Pain associated with sexual activity

  • Urinary urgency and other bladder-related concerns

  • Pelvic discomfort associated with musculoskeletal conditions

My approach considers the relationships between the pelvic floor, nervous system, musculoskeletal structures, and other aspects of health.

Pelvic acupuncture can be considered as part of a broader, collaborative healthcare approach.

Pelvic health care is for everyone.

Perimenopause & Menopause

Understanding your changing body.

Perimenopause and menopause can bring changes that affect how you sleep, think, feel, and experience your body.

For some people, these transitions are relatively straightforward. For others, they can feel confusing, disruptive, or overwhelming.

You may be noticing changes in:

  • Sleep and energy

  • Menstrual cycles

  • Mood and emotional regulation

  • Temperature regulation and hot flashes

  • Muscle and joint comfort

  • Pelvic and genitourinary health

  • Your overall sense of well-being

Traditional Chinese Medicine offers another perspective for understanding these transitions.

Rather than viewing each symptom in isolation, we explore the broader patterns that may be contributing to your experience.

My goal is to offer education, individualized acupuncture care, and a space where your concerns are taken seriously.

You deserve to understand what's happening in your body, without fear or judgment.

What to Expect When We Work Together

Your story matters.

Your first appointment begins with a conversation.

We'll talk about what's bringing you in, your health history, your symptoms, and what you're hoping to get out of treatment.

I may ask questions about areas of your health that seem unrelated to your main concern. That's because Traditional Chinese Medicine considers how different systems and experiences can influence one another.

Together, we'll develop an individualized treatment approach that may include:

  • Acupuncture

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment

  • Cupping or gua sha, when appropriate

  • Electroacupuncture, when appropriate

  • Lifestyle and dietary education

  • Acupressure and self-care strategies

  • Collaboration with your other healthcare providers

I believe healthcare works best when you're an active participant in understanding your body and making decisions about your care.

My role is to bring my knowledge and clinical experience to the conversation while respecting your own experience of living in your body.

About Dr. Tanya Kelloway

I've been practising acupuncture since 2010, and one of the things I continue to appreciate most about Traditional Chinese Medicine is the perspective it offers.

It encourages us to look beyond individual symptoms and consider how the body works as a whole.

Over the years, my clinical interests have evolved, particularly in pelvic health, perimenopause, pain management, and nervous system regulation.

But my approach to patient care remains the same.

I believe in listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, continuing to learn, and helping people make sense of what's happening in their bodies.

Whether you're coming in for a sore back, persistent pelvic pain, hormonal changes, or something you haven't quite been able to explain, I'm glad you're here.

Let's Start With a Conversation

You don't need to know whether acupuncture is the right approach before reaching out.

You don't need a perfect explanation of your symptoms.

And you certainly don't need to fit into a particular category of patient.

If you're looking for thoughtful, individualized acupuncture care in Calgary, I'd be happy to work with you.
